Slaughden

Slaughden is an atmospheric spot to anchor off on the River Alde, just south of Aldeburgh. What makes it genuinely haunting is that you're anchoring over what was once a thriving shipbuilding village, swallowed by storms and shingle in the early 20th century — there's almost nothing left above the waterline. Aldeburgh itself is a short walk up the shingle bank, with its independent shops, fish shacks, and the famous Snape Maltings nearby.
