Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer should carry independent insurance for personal effects whilst aboard or ashore and for any medical or accident expenses (including emergency transport evacuation) incurred.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Might we be asked to prove we can handle the boat?
Yes. We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate your competence by taking the yacht out at sea with one of our representatives aboard. If we're not satisfied, we can arrange a skipper at your cost for as long as needed for safety.
Where can we sail?
Your cruising area is Greece. Please plan your itinerary so you reach your farthest port within the first third of the charter, and be within about 40 nautical miles of the return port two days before the charter ends.
What are the rules about weather and sailing safely?
Don't leave port or anchorage when the wind is, or is forecast to be, over Beaufort 6, or when the authorities have banned sailing. Reduce sail in strong conditions and avoid sailing at night without all navigation lights working and a proper watch on deck.
Is there anything we're not allowed to do with the yacht?
The boat is for your private pleasure only. Please don't carry paying passengers, race, tow other craft except in an emergency, sublet the yacht, or take her outside the cruising area without our written consent. Any water toys and tenders are used at your own risk.
What happens if the boat breaks down?
Report any breakdown to us in writing straight away. If a serious mechanical failure that isn't your fault keeps you from reasonably using the yacht and isn't fixed within eight working hours of your notice, you can claim a pro-rata refund or, by agreement, an extension for the lost time.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
